Timber Orangeries with Carefully Considered Details

An orangery should complement the house from both inside and outside. Window heights, roof proportions, brickwork and painted joinery all influence how naturally the extension connects with the original building.

Traditional glazing bars and decorative mouldings can reflect existing architectural features. Simpler detailing and larger panes offer a different approach where open views and a contemporary appearance are priorities.

We develop these choices together, considering the extension from the garden and through adjoining rooms. The result is a design that responds to the house as a whole.

Creating Space for a Kitchen, Dining Area or Family Room

A well-planned extension starts with how the room will be used. A kitchen island, dining table and seating area each need sufficient space, with clear routes between the house and garden.

We consider furniture and cabinetry before finalising windows, doors and the roof lantern. Solid wall areas can provide useful storage space, while the arrangement of glazing influences daylight and views.

The connection to existing rooms is equally important. Structural openings, floor levels, heating, ventilation and shading are considered alongside the appearance of the new space.

Design, Manufacture and Construction

Kingsholme has specialised in orangeries, conservatories and roof lanterns since 1997. Our service brings together design development, timber manufacture and the practical requirements of installation.

For a complete build, we can coordinate necessary approvals, foundations, construction, structural alterations and agreed finishing work. The scope is established around your property and the extent of the project.

If your architect or main contractor is managing a wider renovation, we can manufacture and install the specialist timber elements. Agreeing dimensions, connections and responsibilities early helps the workshop and site teams work to the same plan.

Traditional Timber Roof Lanterns

A bespoke timber roof lantern introduces daylight from above and can give an extension a distinctive ceiling feature. Its proportions and position should relate to the space below, whether that is a kitchen, dining room or sitting area.

Our traditional roof lanterns are made to order, with glazing arrangements, joinery details and painted finishes chosen to suit the project. They can form part of a complete Kingsholme orangery or be installed within an extension constructed by your builder.

We coordinate roof opening and supporting upstand requirements with the project team before manufacture.

Understanding the Likely Cost

The overall budget depends on the size and specification of the orangery, together with the work required to connect it to your home. Foundations, structural alterations, glazing, site access and internal finishes can all influence the cost.

Our guide explains the main considerations and provides an initial indication of budgets before we discuss your individual project.
