Kingsholme is an independent company specialising in the design and construction of bespoke hardwood orangeries. Based in Studham, we work throughout Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and the surrounding areas.
For more than 25 years, we have built our reputation on skilled craftsmanship, carefully considered design and a professional service. From the initial concept and planning requirements to manufacture and installation, every project is individually designed around the property and the way our clients want to use their new space.
Our orangeries range from traditional designs for period homes to refined contemporary structures. In every case, we aim to create a light-filled extension that appears to belong to the original house and can be enjoyed throughout the year.
All the orangeries and roof lanterns shown in our project photography were designed and built by Kingsholme. A small number of stock photographs may appear elsewhere in supporting editorial content, but the completed projects featured throughout the website are our own work.

The majority of our orangeries are made in timber, a timeless and sustainable material with natural beauty and a quality feel. We combine traditional joinery details with modern technology to produce a product that offers the best of both worlds.
Each timber orangery we build is truly bespoke, designed to meet the client’s individual requirements, to fit the host building and to make the most of the garden. Timber orangeries can be painted any colour, from simple whites to strong greys to subtle pastel shades.
We can undertake the entire process, from design and manufacture to installation, thereby ensuring the result product meets initial expectations. This can include the general building work, alternatively we can just manufacture and install the timber orangery components.
We also supply and install traditional timber roof lanterns as a separate item. Whether it be the replacement of an old skylight or the focal point of a new extension, our timber roof lanterns will add the ‘wow-factor’ to your room.
Out traditional style roof lanterns feature ovolo moulded rafters and hips made from FSC Certified hardwood. Whilst the majority of the timber is not exposed to the elements so durability is not the main concern, most hardwoods are stronger than most softwoods so we can use slimmer sections to achieve the required structural strength.
The external components are a combination of aluminium and accoya making the lantern very low maintenance. We generally recommend solar control glass which can block out over 80% of solar heat as well as reducing glare. This glass comes with a self-cleaning coating which is surprisingly effective.
Whilst our core business is with timber products we also construct a broader range of garden rooms. The quality alternative to timber is aluminium, which lends itself to stunning modern designs. Our aluminium orangeries often feature large pane sliding doors which can give a clear view all year round, or we can incorporate the ever popular bi-folding doors which can be fully opened to create that ‘outside-in’ feel.
The aluminium components are powder-coated to provide a durable and maintenance free finish. Anthracite RAL 7016 is the most widely used colour and works well with contemporary designs. Black RAL 9005 and Quartz Grey RAL 7039 are also popular, however your aluminium orangery can be coated in any RAL colour of your choice.
We have developed our own aluminium fascia and coping system which has concealed fixings to give a sleek finish. Structural steel is used and cleverly hidden behind insulated column casings in accordance with the minimalist design.

The fantastic reviews I see here reflect the experience we have had with Kingsholme. It has been faultless from the first contact through to completion of our orangery. The technical information on the website gave me confidence that the product is outstanding, based on years of experience. All of the team were outstanding, highly experienced tradesmen. The final product is of the highest quality in terms of design, materials and construction. There was absolutely no ‘sales’ involved and during my first call, I was given a ballpark figure based on the size of the space; the final cost was only higher because we increased the size and there were no hidden surprises. The first design we received was exactly what we wanted (they ‘got it’) and the only tweak we made was around the size of a side window. Mark agreed to take on some additional work inside the house, opening up a supporting wall between our kitchen and old dining room. I had struggled to get anyone to take this on, so was greatful to him for doing it. This proved to be quite a challenge for the team based on how the original wall was constructed and took a few more days that expected, however they worked constantly in horrible conditions until it was done. We didn’t have a lot of time to get involved in the project and that wasn’t an issue in the end as everything was taken care for us. It’s rare to say this of a company – we have not had a single issue with Kingsholme. Thank you to everyone involved.
