Every Kingsholme orangery begins with a design developed specifically for the property. Using 3D design technology, we can refine its proportions, roof form, windows, doors and architectural detailing before manufacture begins. This also allows you to see how the proposed orangery will relate to the original house.
Once the design is agreed, the timber structure is made to order in our Bedfordshire workshop. Windows, doors, the roof lantern and decorative features are manufactured together, helping us maintain consistency across the complete structure and reproduce details from the existing property where appropriate.
For complete orangery projects, Kingsholme can coordinate planning and technical requirements, foundations, brickwork, structural alterations, installation and final finishing. Where an architect or main contractor is managing a larger development, we can instead manufacture and install the bespoke timber structure as a clearly defined part of the wider project.
We are proud to hold Made in Britain accreditation, reflecting the fact that our products are manufactured locally and that most of the components we use are also made in the UK.
Local production gives us a shorter, more dependable supply chain while ensuring our orangeries are designed specifically for British homes and weather conditions. This is reflected in both their traditional appearance and their long-term durability.
We primarily use hardwood for our windows and doors because its strength and stability make it particularly well suited to the UK’s damp and changeable climate. Although softwood is commonly used by some European manufacturers, especially for drier continental conditions, we believe hardwood provides the lasting performance and quality our clients expect.
Our luxury timber orangeries are primarily crafted from Red Grandis and Accoya, with Tricoya panels used in selected areas. These materials are sourced from responsibly managed plantations and are FSC 100% certified.
Red Grandis is a durable hardwood used for the principal structural elements, including windows, doors and roof components. Accoya and Tricoya offer exceptional stability and resistance to weathering, making them particularly suitable for exposed details such as cills, entablatures, astragal bars and pilasters.
As an Approved Accoya Manufacturer, we have specialist experience in working with this premium modified timber. Its durability, dimensional stability and strong environmental credentials make it an excellent choice for creating beautiful orangeries designed to perform for many years.
Kingsholme is a member of the British Woodworking Federation (BWF), the UK’s leading trade association for the woodworking and joinery industry. Membership requires us to follow its rigorous Code of Conduct, covering areas such as product quality, technical standards, customer care, health and safety, and responsible business practices. For our clients, this provides added reassurance that their orangery is being manufactured by a professional company committed to high standards of craftsmanship and service.
Our standard timber window system combines the elegant proportions and flush appearance of traditional joinery with the comfort, security and energy efficiency expected from a modern home. The design complements both period and contemporary properties while retaining the character and attention to detail for which handcrafted timber windows are valued.
Security is built into the system, with windows designed to meet PAS 24 requirements and support compliance with Part Q of the Building Regulations where applicable. A Window Energy Rating of A also helps to reduce heat loss, improve comfort and enhance the overall thermal performance of the orangery.
The result is a beautifully crafted timber window that offers authentic architectural character without compromising on security, energy efficiency or everyday practicality.
Based on our recent projects, many complete Kingsholme hardwood orangeries cost between £70,000 and £120,000 including VAT. Smaller or more straightforward projects may cost less, while larger or architecturally complex designs can exceed this range.
Every project is individually designed, but we can usually provide an initial budget indication after a short conversation and, where possible, reviewing photographs and approximate dimensions.
The terms timber orangery and timber conservatory are often used interchangeably, and many homeowners begin their search without knowing which type of glazed extension would best suit their property.
A timber conservatory normally contains a greater proportion of glazing, often including a predominantly glazed roof. This creates a bright room with a particularly strong connection to the garden. An orangery generally incorporates more masonry and an insulated flat-roof perimeter surrounding a glazed roof lantern, giving it the appearance and atmosphere of a more permanent home extension.
Because every Kingsholme project is individually designed, there is no need to select a standard category before speaking to us. We can adapt the proportions of glass, timber, masonry and solid roof construction to complement your home and create the appropriate balance of natural light, insulation and architectural character.
Some finished designs combine elements traditionally associated with both conservatories and orangeries. Ultimately, the description is less important than creating an attractive, comfortable and practical room that feels as though it belongs to your property.
Every Kingsholme orangery is individually designed, but the project
generally follows five stages.
We begin by discussing your property, the space you would like to
create and the type of orangery you have in mind. Photographs,
approximate dimensions and any existing drawings can help us provide
an initial indication of suitability and likely cost.
We assess the property, take measurements and consider access, levels,
drainage and the relationship with the existing house. We then develop
a bespoke design, using 3D visualisation to show how the proposed
orangery will look.
You receive a detailed quotation setting out the agreed scope of work.
Where required, we can also prepare and manage planning applications,
Building Regulations information and structural calculations.
Once the design and technical details are approved, the timber
structure is manufactured in our Bedfordshire workshop. On site, our
teams undertake the agreed building work before installing the
orangery, windows, doors and roof lantern.
Electrical work, heating, plastering, flooring and decorating can be
completed as part of the Kingsholme contract where agreed. The finished
orangery is inspected before the project is handed over for you to enjoy.

The technical information on the website gave me confidence that the product is outstanding, based on years of experience. All of the team were outstanding, highly experienced tradesmen. The final product is of the highest quality in terms of design, materials and construction. There was absolutely no ‘sales’ involved and during my first call, I was given a ballpark figure based on the size of the space; the final cost was only higher because we increased the size and there were no hidden surprises. The first design we received was exactly what we wanted (they ‘got it’) and the only tweak we made was around the size of a side window. Mark agreed to take on some additional work inside the house, opening up a supporting wall between our kitchen and old dining room. I had struggled to get anyone to take this on, so was grateful to him for doing it. This proved to be quite a challenge for the team based on how the original wall was constructed and took a few more days than expected, however they worked constantly in horrible conditions until it was done. We didn’t have a lot of time to get involved in the project and that wasn’t an issue in the end as everything was taken care for us.
