Bespoke Orangeries & Conservatories in Berkhamsted

Kingsholme designs and builds bespoke timber orangeries and conservatories for homes in Berkhamsted and the surrounding area. Whether you want to replace an existing conservatory, extend your kitchen or create a separate garden-facing room, we develop the design around your property and everyday needs.

Our timber windows, doors, roof lanterns and decorative joinery are manufactured at our workshop in Studham, Bedfordshire. We can coordinate a complete design and build service or manufacture and install the specialist timber structure alongside your architect and builder.

Replacing a Conservatory in Berkhamsted

Our completed Berkhamsted project shows how replacing an older conservatory can be an opportunity to reconsider the whole space.

The existing uPVC conservatory stood alongside the house, facing both the front and rear gardens. The new orangery retained connections from the dining room and drawing room, with windows towards the front garden and doors opening onto the rear.

Matching brickwork, a rendered base and decorative pilasters helped connect the extension visually with the house, while a roof lantern introduced daylight into the centre of the room.

Timber Orangeries That Complement Your Home

The proportions and details of an orangery influence how naturally it sits alongside the original building. We consider window heights, rooflines, brickwork and painted joinery as part of one design.

Traditional glazing bars and mouldings can reflect existing architectural features. Simpler detailing and larger panes offer a different approach where a contemporary appearance and open garden views are priorities.

When replacing an existing structure, we also review the layout and construction requirements. The new design should respond to how you want to use the room, rather than simply repeat the arrangement it replaces.

Space for Cooking, Dining and Relaxing

An orangery can create room for a larger kitchen, family dining or a separate sitting area. Planning furniture, cabinetry and routes through the room early helps establish the right layout.

We develop door and window positions around those practical needs, considering access to the garden and the connection with adjoining rooms. Solid wall areas can provide space for storage, while the roof lantern brings daylight from above.

Heating, ventilation and shading are considered alongside the glazing, so comfort receives the same attention as appearance.

From Design Through to Construction

Kingsholme has specialised in orangeries, conservatories and roof lanterns since 1997. Our service brings together design development, timber manufacture and the practical requirements of installation.

For a complete build, we can coordinate necessary approvals, foundations, building work, structural alterations and agreed finishing work. The scope is established around your property and the extent of the proposed changes.

If an architect or main contractor is managing a wider renovation, we can manufacture and install the specialist timber elements. Agreeing dimensions, connections and responsibilities early helps the workshop and site teams work to the same plan.

Traditional Timber Roof Lanterns

A bespoke timber roof lantern can introduce daylight into the centre of an extension and give the ceiling a distinctive architectural feature. Its proportions and position should relate to the room beneath it.

We manufacture traditional roof lanterns to order, with glazing arrangements, painted finishes and joinery details developed to suit the project. They can form part of a complete Kingsholme orangery or be installed within an extension constructed by your own builder.

We coordinate the roof opening and supporting upstand requirements with the project team before manufacture.

Planning Your Berkhamsted Project

Photographs of your house and garden, approximate dimensions and any existing drawings provide a useful starting point. If you are replacing a conservatory, photographs showing its connections to the house are particularly helpful.

We can discuss design options, site access and any known restrictions affecting the property. Necessary applications or specialist advice can be considered within the agreed scope, alongside the manufacture and installation requirements.

For projects elsewhere in the county, see our Hertfordshire service page.

Understanding the Likely Cost

The overall budget depends on the size and specification of the orangery and the construction work involved. Removing an existing structure, preparing foundations, altering openings and completing internal finishes can all influence the cost.

Our guide explains the main considerations and provides an initial indication of budgets before we discuss your individual project.
