The terms orangery and conservatory are often used interchangeably, but the balance of glazing and solid construction usually distinguishes them.
A conservatory generally contains a greater proportion of glass and commonly has a predominantly glazed roof, creating a bright room with a particularly strong connection to the garden. Planning permission and Building Regulations are separate matters. The relevant local authority will depend on whether the property falls within West Northamptonshire or North Northamptonshire.
