Bespoke Orangeries and Conservatories in Northamptonshire

Kingsholme designs, manufactures and installs individually designed timber orangeries and conservatories for homeowners throughout Northamptonshire. Whether you are considering a traditional conservatory, a substantial orangery or a contemporary glazed extension, we can create a design suited to your home and the way you want to use the space.

Every project is designed around the proportions and architectural character of the existing property. Detailed drawings and 3D CAD views allow you to understand how the proposed extension will look before manufacture begins.

The timber structures, windows, doors and roof lanterns are made to order at our workshop in Studham. We can also manage the complete project, including the necessary approvals, building work, installation and agreed finishing work.

Individually Designed

Every orangery is designed around the architecture of the

Choosing Between an Orangery and a Conservatory

The terms orangery and conservatory are often used interchangeably, but the balance of glazing and solid construction usually distinguishes them.

A conservatory generally contains a greater proportion of glass and commonly has a predominantly glazed roof, creating a bright room with a particularly strong connection to the garden. An orangery normally incorporates more masonry and an insulated roof surrounding a glazed lantern, giving it the character and comfort of a substantial home extension.

Because every Kingsholme project is individually designed, you do not need to choose between two fixed building types. We can adjust the proportions of masonry, timber, glazing and roof construction to create the right balance of natural light, comfort and architectural character for your home.

Designed to Complement Your Home

A successful orangery or conservatory should feel connected to the original house rather than appearing to be a standard addition. We consider the property’s proportions, brick or stonework, roof lines, window details and relationship with the garden when developing each design.

Timber gives us the flexibility to create both traditional and contemporary structures. Fine glazing bars and decorative joinery can complement a period home, while larger areas of glass and cleaner detailing can create a more modern appearance.

The intended use of the room is equally important. Whether you need a kitchen extension, dining area, family room or garden-facing retreat, we design the space around how it will be used throughout the year.

Traditional Craftsmanship, Modern Performance

Kingsholme combines traditional joinery skills with modern design, materials and glazing technology. Each timber structure, window, door and roof lantern is made to order at our workshop rather than assembled from a standard conservatory system.

We use durable hardwood and Accoya to create finely detailed joinery suited to long-term use. These materials allow us to reproduce traditional architectural features while also creating cleaner, contemporary designs where appropriate.

Our 3D CAD process connects the initial design with manufacture, helping us maintain control over proportions and construction details. Modern glazing, insulation and weather-resistant external components are then incorporated to create a comfortable, practical addition to the home.

Planning an Orangery or Conservatory in Northamptonshire

Some orangeries and conservatories can be constructed under permitted development rights, while others require planning permission. This depends on the property, the size and position of the proposed extension, previous additions and any restrictions affecting the site.

Planning permission and Building Regulations are separate matters. The relevant local authority will depend on whether the property falls within West Northamptonshire or North Northamptonshire.

Kingsholme can assist with planning and Building Regulations as part of a complete project. Our detailed drawings and 3D CAD views help establish the design and technical requirements before manufacture and construction begin.

Further information is available from West Northamptonshire Council, North Northamptonshire Council and our guide to Building Control.
