Most of our work involves bespoke timber orangeries, individually designed to complement the proportions and character of each property. We also create a smaller number of contemporary aluminium orangeries for clients seeking slimmer frames, larger areas of glazing and a more modern architectural appearance.

Properties across St Albans vary considerably, from period houses and homes within conservation areas to newer developments and contemporary properties. We believe a successful orangery should appear to belong to the original house, with its roofline, brickwork, window proportions and architectural detailing considered from the outset.
Every Kingsholme orangery is individually designed rather than adapted from a standard system. Using detailed 3D drawings, we can explore the proportions, appearance and internal layout before manufacture begins. This allows the design to respond both to the character of the property and to how the new room will be used.
Depending on the project, Kingsholme can manufacture and install the orangery structure or manage the complete build, including planning requirements, foundations, brickwork, electrics, heating and finishing work
Most of the orangeries we build in the St Albans area are traditional timber structures, designed to complement the character and proportions of the original property. Timber gives us the flexibility to reproduce period detailing or create a cleaner, more contemporary appearance while retaining the warmth and quality of a handcrafted product.
The windows, doors, roof lanterns and decorative joinery are manufactured at our workshop in Studham. Producing these components ourselves gives us close control over their proportions, detailing, finish and overall quality.
Every timber orangery is made to order, with paint colours, glazing, ironmongery and architectural details selected for the individual project. The result is a light-filled extension designed to feel like a natural part of the home rather than a standard addition.
A timber roof lantern can form the centrepiece of a new orangery or introduce more natural light into an existing flat-roof extension. Each Kingsholme roof lantern is individually designed and manufactured at our Studham workshop.
Our traditional lanterns feature carefully proportioned rafters and hips, with moulded timber details that suit both period and contemporary homes. Because every lantern is made to order, its dimensions, paint finish, glazing and decorative details can be coordinated with the surrounding architecture.
Kingsholme roof lanterns can be supplied as part of a complete orangery project or manufactured and installed separately for an extension being constructed by your builder.

The fantastic reviews I see here reflect the experience we have had with Kingsholme. It has been faultless from the first contact through to completion of our orangery. The technical information on the website gave me confidence that the product is outstanding, based on years of experience. All of the team were outstanding, highly experienced tradesmen. The final product is of the highest quality in terms of design, materials and construction. There was absolutely no ‘sales’ involved and during my first call, I was given a ballpark figure based on the size of the space; the final cost was only higher because we increased the size and there were no hidden surprises. The first design we received was exactly what we wanted (they ‘got it’) and the only tweak we made was around the size of a side window. Mark agreed to take on some additional work inside the house, opening up a supporting wall between our kitchen and old dining room. I had struggled to get anyone to take this on, so was grateful to him for doing it. This proved to be quite a challenge for the team based on how the original wall was constructed and took a few more days than expected, however they worked constantly in horrible conditions until it was done. We didn’t have a lot of time to get involved in the project and that wasn’t an issue in the end as everything was taken care for us.
